MAY COMMUNITY EVENTS

 

May 3rd—South Columbia Family School invites you to attend our Celebration of Learning from 7:00—8:00 pm in the Otto Petersen cafeteria in Scappoose. We will celebrate our eighth graders’ graduation and the publishing of our Family Lessons Book. We will enjoy “Eagles Soar II—Anything’s Possible” - featuring our students, families, and staff. May 3rd -  For The Father’s Glory—Announcing the Columbia Pregnancy  Center’s second annual fundraising banquet & silent auction, Thursday, May 3, 2007.  Grace Baptist Church located at 58690 Ross Rd in St Helens. Seating  begins at 6:30 pm. Dinner and Program at 7:00 pm. During the event an opportunity to make a financial gift will be extended. Dinner is complimentary. May 3rd—St Helens Middle School Fourth Annual Poetry Reading and Journal Release Party.  This free event is in it’s fourth year and celebrates the voices of young people by publishing their original poetry.  Thursday, May 3rd at 6:30 pm in the Middle School Cafeteria.  Food and refreshment provided.  For more information, see the complete article on Page 2 of this newsletter, or contact Charles Sanderson at 503-366-7300 or charless@sthelens.k12.or.us.

 

May 5th—Columbia River Fire & Rescue—A FREE child safety seat check up clinic will be held on Saturday, May 5, 2007 at St Helens Wal-Mart at 2295 Gable Rd from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm.  Sponsored by: Wal-Mart, Columbia River Fire & Rescue, ACTS Oregon, Child Safety Seat Resouce Center and ODOT-Transportation Safety Division.

 

May 5th—Avamere Spring Fling—11:00 am to 3:00 pm.  Come celebrate spring with Avamere! Avamere is hosting their first annual Spring Fling Event and it’s free! Located at 2400 Gable Rd in St Helens. Come and enjoy a petting zoo, face painting, pie throwing, art show, refreshments, drawings & prizes and various vendors offering pottery, crafts, jewelry, garden décor and more.   And….Live Music by the “Wins, Lawrentz, Smith Band”.

 

May 8th—& May 9th—South Columbia Family School  Parent Information Sessions on Tuesday, May 8 at 7:00 –8:00 pm and Wednesday, May 9, at 1:00 pm-2:00 pm. Interested in a new twist on home-schooling? Find out how you can home-school your children with support from licensed staff at NO cost to your family. May 9th—Columbia River Fire & Rescue in partnership with Oregon Department of Forestry, the City of St Helens and St Helens Nursery, will be holding an informational community meeting regarding Wild and Urban Interface (WUI) wildfire threat for the Grey Cliffs neighborhood. Meeting begins at 7:00 pm at the Elks Lodge on Belton Rd in St Helens. May 12th—St Helens Sail & Power Squadron is the proud sponsor of “National Safe Boating Week Community Fair”.  9:00 am to 3:00 pm at Peterson Middle School, Columbia River Hwy in Scappoose.  Free Vessel Safety Inspections.  Many vendors and  give a ways!  More information to follow.   

 

May 19th  -  5th Annual Touch the Heart of a Child Art Auction and Benefit Presented by: The Friends of Sacagawea  Request for Contributions of Art to Support Children’s Health Care.  This year Touch the Heart of a Child will be held on Saturday, May 19th 2007 at the landmark Olde School in historic downtown St. Helens, 251 St. Helens Street.  Doors open at 5:00 pm  Artists making donations will receive one   complimentary admission to the event. Tickets will be sold in advance for $30 or at the door for $35.  Participants will enjoy a silent and oral auction, a delicious buffet, and no-host bar. If you plan to attend, please RSVP to Sacagawea Health Center,         503-366-7645 so we may ensure a place of honor for you.  If you wish to participate you will need to complete a form and return it to Betse Thielman, Executive Director, at Sacagawea Health Center, 1060 Eisenschmidt Lane, St Helens OR 97051. June 2nd—Columbia Chorale’s Spring Concert featuring the Brahms Requiem in Portland, Oregon. Location to be announced. For additional information, call Anita Goodwin at 503-366-9199.

 

June 2nd—Scappoose Farmers Market, for more details, contact Bill Blank at 503-543-3469. Market hours are 9:00 am to 2:00 pm. The market is located on E. 1st Street at Columbia Avenue across from City Hall and the policy department.

June 30th—2nd Annual Family Fun Festival and Annual Meeting. St Helens Community Federal Credit Union will hold this event at the St Helens High School from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm. This years event will be used to assist Columbia Food Bank in the canned food collection effort and additional cash donations received from the event will be used to purchase helmet safety pad inserts for our troops overseas.
