2007 South Columbia County Chamber Board of Directors
Your election results are in!!
Casey Wheeler, Chairman, Dan Garrison, Treasurer, Stephanie Cox, Secretary, Ronda Courtney Director, and Lexi Wyatt Director were on hand at The South Columbia County Winter Hoe-Down and Awards Banquet to welcome the newly elected incoming Board of Directors that will be serving on The South Columbia County Chamber of Commerce for 2007.
Your newly elected board and their respective bio’s are as follows:
Janice Blazek Meadow Park Health & Specialty Care Center Nursing Home Administrator
My name is Janice Worley-Blazek and I moved to the St Helens area two years ago this April with my family. I am originally from Oregon but relocated years ago to attend college. I received my degree in Psychology from the University of Nevada Las Vegas and then attended Graduate School in Kansas where I furthered my studies in Psychology and then expanded into Gerontology. I have been a licensed Nursing Home Administrator for over 13 years with experience in Skilled Nursing Centers and Assisted Living. I am the current Administrator at Meadow Park Health and Specialty Care Center located in St Helens.
I am a member of the South Columbia County Chamber of Commerce where I also participate as a member of the Education Committee. I relocated to Columbia City with my husband, and two daughters, we instantly fell in love with the area and are excited about making it our permanent home. We enjoy being involved in the community, from attending our daughter’s soccer and gymnastics events to the local events held in the community and its surroundings. I bring with me the experience I have gained through being a member of various Chamber of Commerce in small towns to larger cities, where I have, at times have served on the board and on several committees. There is nothing more enjoyable to me than to be a part of the local community and feel like you are making a difference.
Tim Lammers Columbia River PUD, Commercial Services Advisor
Tim and his family moved from the southern Oregon area to Warren eight years ago to begin employment with Columbia River PUD where he is works as a Commercial Services Advisor. Tim’s job focuses on helping commercial and institutional customers make the wisest use of energy. |
|
Tim is the President of the St Helens Day Breakers Kiwanis Club, a member of the St Helens School Board and a current member of the Chamber’s Board of Directors. He is also the Chair of the Chamber’s Education and Training Committee.
Tim’s vision for the South Columbia Chamber of Commerce is “that the Chamber steadily increases its contribution to the prosperity and well being of the greater south Columbia County area”.
Jackie Matthews National Property Inspections
I have lived in St Helens for over 4 years and I can’t even imagine ever wanting to live anywhere else. As a new business owner in the community, I want to be more involved and help other businesses thrive. V olunteer experience includes staff member and volunteer for Special Olympics Oregon, Muscular Dystrophy Association, and National MS Society.
I’ve worked with many new people in my home inspection business and look forward to meeting and working with many more!
I have volunteered with several non-profit organizations over the years, and I feel this position would allow me to support both the residents and the business owners in the community.
Harry Maurer Sommers Financial Management
Former president of my homeowner’s association. Former board member of soccer and figure skating clubs as well as a volunteer for the Oregon Zoo.
Retired engineer working as an investment advisor with Sommers Financial Management.
As a newcomer to St Helens and Scappoose (2 years), I‘ve developed a deep appreciation for the wonderful qualities and resources of this community. I would like to contribute to its further development and enrichment. As a board member, I feel I can use my talents and capabilities to help businesses in my community to grown and prosper. As a one-year volunteer on the Board of Education Committee, it would be a natural step, to become a board member, and increase the level of my involvement.
Brady Preheim Preheim Computers
I opened in my first retail location in Scappoose in 1997. Yes 10 years already this summer. I moved to my current location in Scappoose next to Sears after 7 years at the same location next to the Texaco where the coffee shop is now located. Volunteer experience includes Scappoose Sauerkraut Festival, South Columbia County Chamber committee.
I am interested in being on the Chamber Board to increase Chamber Membership. I hope to help do this by my continued involvement on the Chamber Education Committee. I think one of the major functions of a Chamber should be to provide good quality educational opportunities to its members.
I am also interested in helping the Chamber and the Chamber members improve their technology infrastructure. This includes more web-based tools, an electronic newsletter, and even an online form of submitting applications.
William A. Vaughan Willie V’s LLC
I am the owner of Willie V’s LLC, a barbeque catering co. In the short amount of time that I have lived in Columbia County I have been embraced by a sense of small town camaraderie that makes me feel very welcome. I would like to participate as a board member to preserve and promote this feeling as well as help my community grow. This area in my estimation is poised for substantial growth and prosperity and I would like to play a part in this future development.
My volunteer experience includes Red Cross, Handicapped Children’s Fund San Francisco Bay Area NFL Alumni Association, Oregon SOLV, Meals on Wheels (feeding Portland’s homeless), various church fund raisers. |

And The Award Goes To……
The colors were red and white, Dale Evans and Roy Rogers graced the entry. Over 200 balloons, along with oodles of white and red lights, flower arrangements and decorations transformed the Pavilion at the Columbia County Event Complex into a wonderful setting for the South Columbia Winter Hoe-Down and Awards Ceremony.
Willie V’s and Wild Currant Catering’s fabulous food set the tone for a fun filled night with The Turkey Creek Desperadoes and Shawn Hawkins and the Offenders as the night’s entertainment.
More than 250 people came to the fairground’s pavilion to honor some our area’s amazing citizens for the year 2006.
The intent of this event was to recognize those in our community who give of themselves in time and energy to make south Columbia County a better place to work, play, live and grow!
George Dunkel Master of Ceremonies kicked off the night and did a fantastic job keeping the awards banquet rolling along and right on schedule. Casey Wheeler introduced the newest members of the South Columbia Chamber of Commerce Posse.
Brady Preheim took home Chamber Member of the year, followed by Stephanie Cox who received the Chamber Board Member of the year. Stephanie was the Chamber’s Secretary, and served on the Chamber board for the past three years. The Kiwanis presented Fergus Pilon with the Distinguished Service Award for 2006, and Rotary presented the Rotary Paul Harris Award to a very surprised Monte Gustafson.
Scappoose was there in their country finest to honor and award the Scappoose Community Club’s Outstanding Member Award to Scappoose City Administrator Jon Hanken.
David Karn was selected as St. Helens’ Teacher of the Year, and one of David’s students Jessica Edwards gladly accepted this award on his behalf. Dixon Kirsch received the Scappoose Teacher of the Year Award, and Teacher of the Year Gini Mikel beaming from ear to ear accepted her award from friend Diana Nish.
Columbia Funeral Home (John and Amy Potter) were selected South Columbia County Business of the Year presented to them by Chamber Chair, Casey Wheeler.
