Conference Call with Rep. Brad Witt

    Wednesday, February 24, 2010

Throughout the special legislative session, our State Legislators (Sen. Betsy Johnson and Rep. Brad Witt) have participated in conference calls held at the offices of Dan Garrison CPA.   This week, our call was with Brad Witt.

Brad discussed the variety of proposed measures aimed at job creation.  The Senate authorized funds for the Oregon Business Development Fund that would expedite loans under $250k.   There is also consideration of a bill that would provide tax credits on severance payments if invested in a small business.  There is a discussion an Economic Gardening Fund to provide capital for start up businesses.  HB 3698 proposes low interest loans and grants for small businesses that actually hire unemployed Oregonians.

Brad also brought up the Build America Bonds which is federal program that invests in local communities.  He also mentioned that there will be a 6 week extension of unemployment benefits which will affect 19,000 Oregonians.

The last item we discussed is Joint Resolution 41 which will propose sending a resolution to the vote of the people to create annual legislative sessions.

These legislative update meetings occur during legislative sessions.  They provide an opportunity to interact with our state representatives.  Anyone is invited to attend.
